AMD’s HEDT Platform CPUs Will Be Called ‘ThreadRipper’

So we’ve seen reports on AMD’s 16-core, 32-thread and 12-core, 24-thread high-end desktop (HEDT) processors. While these processors will be used in conjunction with AMD’s upcoming X399 chipset, the CPUs will be called ThreadRipper according to the latest reports.

A post on Reddit has said that these new CPUs will include 64 PCI-Express lanes, and a TDP of up to 180W, at least for the 16-core, 32-thread processor. ThreadRipper will be used on the new LGA SP3 socket, having 32MB of L3 cache, and up to 4GHz boost or certain processors. Apparently AMD will announce the processors at Computex, which is only a couple of months away. The retail launch will be a couple weeks after the initial announcement.
