AMD Zen 16 Core Naples CPU Pictured

Tomorrow AMD will hold their “New Horizon” preview event for Zen in Austin Texas. Well it looks like there has already been a leak, photos of the 16-core, 32-thread “Naples” CPU have been leaked to the web. Naples is AMD’s Zen-based enterprise chip that they hope will go head to head with Intel server parts next year. It is by far the largest and most powerful CPU system-on-a-chip that AMD has ever developed.

There will be several different Naples variants, while this one is a 16-core, 32-thread chip the highest configuration will be a 32-core, 64-thread chip! That will make the the largest core and thread count of a x86 CPU in history! It easily outnumbers the 24 cores of Intel’s largest server processor to date, the E7-8890 v4.

The leaked photos show two Zen processors inside of an actively cooled server tray that also has two Radeon Pro graphics accelerators. Cooling the Zen chips themselves are two low-profile high density aluminum fin heatsinks. The server enclosure has four large fans pushing cool air through the components inside.
