AMD will really be focusing on the “generation” of their upcoming 2016 CPUs and APUs when it comes to branding. And it looks like AMD will really be playing a game with Intel as well. In 2016 AMD’s FX-series CPUs and A-series APUs will be the company’s “6th Generation”. This is counting “Stars”, “Bulldozer”, “Piledriver”, “Steamroller”, and “Excavator” driving its past 5 generations.
This of course could make things a little interesting as Intel’s upcoming Core “Skylake” processor family is also the “6th Generation” core processor family. So they are playing a little naming game with Intel in hopes that many people will think the processors from both companies have the same features.
