ADATA Premier SP550 240GB Solid State Drive Review

ADATA Premier SP550 Overview
The ADATA Premier SP550 is your typical 2.5-inch solid state drive. It has a black metal casing with a large sticker on the top that lets us know the capacity and of course that it is the SP550.

On the back of the drive there is another sticker that lists the model number of the drive as well as the warranty code. There are four mounting holes on the bottom of the drive as well.

At one end of the drive you of course have your SATA data and power connections.

The drive is a 7mm drive so it is going to easily fit into smaller devices. Keep in mind ADATA does supply a 7mm to 9.5mm adapter if you need to install it in a larger spot. On each side of the drive you will find two mounting holes.

Getting inside the drive is not all that hard, although I would advise against it as you will void your warranty. To get inside you remove 4 screws on the sides of the drive. When you open the drive up you will find the PCB inside face-down. There are four SK Hynix memory chips on the back of the PCB.

Removing three more screws we can take the PCB completely out. Here we can see four more memory chips, the Silicon Motion SM2256K controller, and a Samsung 256MB DDR3L RAM chip for caching.
