I have to say Wren Sound has really put together a great product in their V5AP. We see so many companies put out these speaker systems with poor quality components and construction just to get consumers who want a speaker system at a low price. Those speakers will not give you the sound quality you are going to get out of the V5AP.
Wren sound made sure they included quality components like the D2 Audio DSP-controlled digital amplifier from Intersil, the two 3-inch throw drivers with 4-layer voice coils and 19mm soft dome tweeters. Not only that they designed the cabinet of the device for sound. It is made up of half-inch thick MDF board constructed by laminating layers together and reinforced with an internal MDF brace.
Being that this is a wireless speaker that makes use of Apple’s AirPlay technology you do not have to have your device plugged it to listen to music. This speaker will work with iPhone’s, iPod’s, iPad’s and Mac and PC’s that have iTunes. Getting your device setup with the V5AP could not be easier and only takes a few minutes.
I think the big drawback here is AirPlay though. Do all of your friends have iOS devices? What if someone comes over and has an Android phone and wants to play their music? They would be out of luck. Also AirPlay requires a WiFi connection so if that is not present then the speaker is pretty much useless. Interestingly enough Wren Sound makes a unit for Android Devices and they also have a universal Bluetooth unit as well. All three units are the same price at $399.99. That is quite a lot for a speaker, but the quality of sound does justify the price. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Wren V5AP AirPlay Speaker for Apple iOS Devices a 9 out of 10 score.
- Crisp and clear sound
- Sounds good at all levels
