Windows 10 Will be Free for Software Pirates

It looks like when it come to software pirates Microsoft is willing to forgive and forget. It has been reported that Microsoft plans to fight Windows piracy in China by upgrading bootleg copies of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 for free this summer. “We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,” Terry Myerson, the head of Microsoft’s operating systems unit, said.

While only speaking in regards to China, it was later confirmed by The Verge that anyone qualified will get the release. A spokesperson for Microsoft said, “We believe customers over time will realize the value of properly licensing Windows and we will make it easy for them to move to legitimate copies.”

So all users of both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will get free upgrades to Windows 10 for the first year. This will create a very uniform user-base for Microsoft and help adoption of the new operating system.
