Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (WD1002FAEX) SATA 6GB/s Hard Drive Review

Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a huge speed boost from SATA 3GB/s to SATA 6GB/s you are not going to see it, at least not yet.  In most of our tests comparing SATA 3GB/s to SATA 6GB/s we only saw a 15-30MB/s difference.  While this is not a huge difference it still you want the fastest drive in your system and if you do not have the cash to move over to a solid state drive then you are going to want this drive in your system.

I really wish we had other SATA 6GB/s drives on hand to compare to this drive, but with all of the solid state drives we have been reviewing we really have not got our hands on other SATA 6GB/s drives.  Hopefully in the future we can get some to see who the real winner in the SATA 6GB/s segment is right now.

If you motherboard supports SATA 6GB/s then why not get a drive like this.  The difference in price if you want the 3GB/s drive (WD1001FALS $87.99) or the 6GB/s drive (WD1002FAEX $89.99) is only $2 at the time of writing this review.  Also keep in mind both drives are under $100 for the 1TB versions.
