MEKA G1 Illuminated Overview
The MEKA G1 Illuminated looks pretty much identical to the original MEKA G1 except for the lettering on the keys is clear instead of white so you can see the illumination showing through. The keyboard has the official dimensions of 430 x 160 x 40mm (LxWxH) and weighs in a 1550g so it is quite heavy, which does make it feel very sturdy.
You do get a full keyboard layout with included number pad. With that I do feel as if the keyboard is not as large as other full gaming keyboards, which I actually do prefer. I don’t need some massive keyboard sitting on my desk. TT eSPORTS uses Cherry MX Black key switches on the MEKA G1 Illuminated. They provide 60-80g of pressing force which is ideal for gaming. The top F1 – F7 keys also can act as multimedia keys by holding down the function key.
Looking at the keyboard from the side we can get a better look at the position of the keys. This is one keyboard that unless you really feel like your need to you will not have to pop up the legs on the bottom of the keyboard. The keys are designed that way, and really make using it comfortable. The first two rows of keys are sloped down while the third row is almost flat and the final three rows have a nice upslope.
This keyboard does have a few added features. There is a long plastic wrist rest, which is actually very comfortable and does sport the TT eSPORTS logo. On the back towards the corner is a two port USB 2.0 hub and headphone and microphone connections. This way you can easily connect your mouse and headset directly to the keyboard. If you flip the keyboard over you can see 4 large rubber feet that will keep the keyboard in place, even when gaming. There are also two pull-out legs that will lift the keyboard off the ground if needed.
The MEKA G1 Illuminated has one of the thickest cables I have seen on a keyboard. This is because it is actually 4 cables in 1! You have two USB cables, and the headphone and microphone cables as well. The cable is nicely braided so it will not rip or get cut easily. Towards the end of the cable all of the cables come out so you can connect them to your PC. All of the connectors are gold plated.
