Thermaltake Max 5G USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure Review

Usage & Testing
Getting the Max 5G setup with your computer is very simple.  Connect the power and connect the 5G to your PC with the included USB 3.0 cable and you are good to go.  You will notice the fans turn on and light up.  If you do not like the blue LED fans you can turn the LEDs off using the switch on the back of the enclosure.  I think they look pretty cool though!

For testing I connected the Max 5G to our X58 test system which has a Core i7 965 Extreme and Gigabyte X58A-UD5 motherboard in it.  For testing we used HDTune Pro and Sandra’s Physical Disks Benchmark.  Here are the results from those tests.

Also if you were wondering what the difference was between USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 speeds check out the graph below.  The Max 5G is USB 2.0 backwards compatible so I just connected it to an open USB 2.0 port for the test.
