The World’s First 13TB Solid State Drive is Here!

Just yesterday we were talking about a 10TB hard drive from Seagate, well another drive has beat that capacity, and even better it is a solid state drive! The drive is the Fixstars SSD-13000M 13TB solid state drive with sequential read and write speeds of 580MB/s and 520MB/s respectively.

The drive itself is powered by Fixstars own proprietary controller and 15nm MLC NAND flash from Toshiba. While we know the sequential speeds, random read / write speeds have not been revealed yet. Here is the kicker though, the drive will be priced at $1 per GB so if you do the math that’s $13,000 for the drive! The drive is going to be sold directly from the Fixstars website, we assume most customers will from the enterprise and business sector, but if you have an extra $13k around you can pick up the drive.

This is currently the largest capacity 2.5-inch solid state drive to hit the market. SanDisk will be launching 6TB and 8TB this year and Samsung will be releasing a 4TB one.

The release date of the SSD-13000M has not been revealed yet.
