Valve has been working on their own Steam Machines for quite some time now. This process has gone through many live tests and beta units that have lead to changes and refinements a long the way. Valve wants to deliver a powerful and stable console-like experience on the PC platform. This of course is going to take a lot of time.
Valve has already sent out 300 beta Steam Machine all of which came with a beta version of their Steam Controller. While the beta controllers did not have a touchscreen after testing by the beta users the controller is going under some changes and is ditching the touchscreen idea and adding more buttons.
An unboxing video of the Steam Machine and the Steam Controller has already been posted by a Youtube user, Corey Nelson. These show the absolutely new and spotless Steam Machine and Steam Controller being taken out of its box. The system is going to be transported very securely in a wooden box, which ensures that there are no damages.
Valve has just released a demonstration trailer that shows how their newly announced Steam Controller works with actual gameplay showing off its flexibility, customization options and innovative functionality.
We knew Valve was going to have three announcements this week. The first was SteamOS, the second was Steam Machines and now the third is the Steam Controller. For those thinking it was going to be Half-Life 3, it looks like you are still going to have to wait for that. The Steam Controller completes the “Living Room” experience that Valve is trying to create with all of these products that they have announced.
