Today we are taking a look at a brand new video card from Sapphire. We have been hearing about the Radeon 7790 over the past few weeks and earlier this year AMD said we would see an HD 8000 series towards the end of the year and they would be refreshing their HD 7000 lineup with new chips. The HD 7790 is the first card that is part of this refresh, based on the brand new “Bonaire” 28nm graphics processor. The Bonaire graphics processor is based off of AMD’s graphics core next (GCN) architecture and features 896 stream processors. We are looking at Sapphire’s version, which is the HD 7790 OC with Dual-X. The Dual-X is for Sapphire’s own unique cooling system on the card. This card features a 1075MHz core clock, 1GB of GDDR5 memory and has dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connections. This card is setup to compete directly with Nvidia’s GTX 650 Ti. Read on as we take a look…

Here are some of the first photos of the Sapphire HD 7790 Dual-X. This is Sapphire’s premium offering based on AMD’s new GPU. This dual slot card features Sapphire’s in-house PCB and cooler designs. As you can see from the photos the PCB and shroud are both black. The cooler is made up of an aluminum fin stack design, which is ventilated by a pair of 80mm fans. The card is powered by a single 6pin PCIe connector and outputs include a pair of DVI ports, HDMI and DisplayPort.

We are not at CeBIT this year, but we are picking up some of the news. One of the more interesting things we have seen is a white Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition. Of course that means this card is aimed at Apple’s Mac systems and Mac gamers. Apple already offers the Radeon HD 5870 or HD 5770 CrossFire on their Mac Pro. Besides the white design this card is still pretty much a reference design with a 800 MHz clock speed and 3GB of GDDR5.

While we mainly know Sapphire for their video cards they actually showed us some of their new Mini PC’s at CES. This is because they video card market is sort of at a halt as new GPU’s are currently not available yet. Sapphire was really excited about their VS series of Mini PC’s that are made to be desktop replacements for moderate users. They offer all of the connectivity and power you would need for basic computing functions, but use far less power. They will soon be releasing a bare-bone version that allows you to install your own hard drive and memory. Check out our video below to get all of the details.

Sapphire has rolled out a new graphics card in their 7870 GHz line. It actually is not that much different from any other Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition cards, except for the cooler. The reason Sapphire is releasing this card is because some HD 7870 GHz Edition cards crash and give a black screen of doom. This phenomenon which happens randomly is said to be caused by poor quality capacitors. Sapphire has corrected this issue and released the new Radeon HD 7870 Dual-X Edition.
