With all of the SATA 6GB/s drives coming out this year we have really pushed the limits of solid state drives. Most of the solid state drives we have tested max out at about 550MB/s. We are not going to see a SATA-connected drive go much faster than that until the next revision of SATA, which will not come for a while. So if you want to get faster speeds you will either need to RAID your drives or choose a different interface. OCZ has been at the forefront of PCI-E solid state drive development with the RevoDrive series. Now on its third version of the drive it is powered by the latest SandForce controller and boasts speed of 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write! Let’s take a look at the 240GB version of the drive.
Do we have an awesome unboxing for you today! Today we are unboxing the OCZ RevoDrive 3 Solid State Drive! This is OCZ’s third revision of the RevoDrive and this one sure packs a punch with rated speeds of 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write! This drive is powered by two SandForce SF-2281 controllers and OCZ SuperScale Storage Controller which features Virtualized Controller Architecture 2.0. This is a PCI-Express based drive that is bootable and supports TRIM and SMART monitoring. Read on to check out our unboxing video and to get a brief overview of the RevoDrive 3!
Patriot is getting in to the SATA 6Gb/s game with the other big players in the solid state market with their Wildfire and Pyro solid state drives. Last year we were very impressed with the Inferno solid state drive from Patriot. Today we are taking look at Patriot’s Wildfire drive which sports the SandForce SF-2281 drive controller with Toshiba 32nm MLC NAND. It boast sequential read and write speeds of 555MB/s and 520MB/s respectively and max random write IOPS up to 85,000 (4K aligned). Let’s see how it performs against other 6Gb/s drives we have recently tested.
It seems like it has been a while since we have reviewed a solid state drive, the last time we looked at one was back in June! Well today we are taking a look at a solid state drive this will not disappoint! The drive I am talking about is the Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SATA 6Gb/s drive. The Force Series GT’s are Corsairs highest solid state drive offering boasting read speeds of 555MB/s and write speeds of 515MB/s, on top of that they are saying speeds of up to 85,000 IOPS. Let’s check this beast out and get it on our test bench!
OCZ has always been at the top of the list when it comes to solid state drive development. A little while ago we took at look at their first SATA 6GB/s drive the Vertex 3. This drive had blazing fast speeds and is considered an enthusiast or even business-level product. OCZ has brought their ever-popular Agility series solid state drive to the SATA 6GB/s standard. The Agility 3 is based on the SandForce SF-2281 controller and boasts read speeds of up to 525MB/s and write speeds up to 500MB/s. Let’s check out this drive and see how it stacks up to the Vertex 3 and other similar drives.
OCZ is no stranger to creating some of the fastest solid state drives available. We know this from our reviews of the original RevoDrive and the Vertex 3 drive. Today OCZ has sent us their X2 version of the RevoDrive, which is to be faster and available in larger capacities. It boasts max speeds of 740MB/s read and 720MB/s write and capacities of up to 960GB. If you are a person that always needs to have some of the fastest components available in your system then the RevoDrive X2 is for you. Let’s see if it will become the fastest solid state drive we have tested to date!
Only a little while ago we visited OCZ at CES and they showed us some of their upcoming solid state drives. These new drives feature the SandForce SF-2200 controller and boast blistering fast speeds. OCZ has been at the forefront of SSD technology and this year they are going to be releasing a ton of new drives. One of the first drives based on the new SandForce SF-2200 controller is the Vertex 3. This drive has a max read of 550MB/s and max write of 525MB/s! Those are some of the fastest advertised speeds we have seen in a consumer drive! OCZ was nice enough to send us an engineering sample version of the drive with BETA firmware on it, so let’s take a look!
OCZ has been one of the big players in the solid state drive market since the first consumer drives were available. We have seen them really push the technology to the limit over the past year, but they are also still concerned about you the customer. That is why they have released 3.5-inch versions of both their Vertex 2 and Agility 2 solid state drives. The 3.5-inch form factor means you do not need an adapter and OCZ claims this design is a lower cost per GB. Let’s take a look at this newly designed 3.5-inch version of the Vertex 2.
OCZ had quite a lot to show us at CES this year. We all know them for making quality memory, solid state drives and power supplies. It seems OCZ is updating each one of these product lines with new more powerful products! They even had a solid state drive in one of their demo’s that broke 1GB/s in ATTO! So without further ado lets see what OCZ has for you in 2011.
Over the past year we have looked at quite a few solid state drives. The big thing this year was the introduction of the SandForce controller into just about every different manufacturer’s drives. OCZ is one such manufacturer, but they have done something different with RevoDrive. The RevoDrive is not an ordinary 2.5-inch SATA drive we are used to seeing, it is a a 4x PCI-Express expansion card with 2 SandForce controllers configured in a RAID 0 setup for extremely fast transfer speeds. Let’s take a look at this drive and see if it can blow away the competition.
