Almost everyone wants the quietest yet most powerful computer possible. Most components generate noise because of the fans cooling them, or because of moving parts. Obviously, solid state drives have eliminated the necessity for moving parts for storage and liquid cooling can replace fans for most components. However, there’s still one pesky component which still generates noise: the high wattage power supply unit. Fanless PSUs have been around for a while, but they’re generally lower wattage and meant for business machines or ultra-efficient HTPCs.
In Win, the company that brought you many different types of cases in the past is now upgrading one of its power supply series into the 80PLUS age. The Commander II series of power supplies, the successor to the original Commander, are available in three different models: 750W, 850W and the 1200W, which we have to review today. All three models are 80PLUS Bronze certified, have an army green color scheme and a silent 135mm fan in them.
The thing that certainly stands out the most about Kingwin’s Lazer Platinum Power Supply is certainly the 80 Plus Platinum certification printed right on the front of the box. Platinum is the highest level of CSCI certification, which means, in a nutshell, that it one of the most efficient PSU’s on the market and will help your PC’s lifespan last longer with greatly reduced heat.
Another great feature is the ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System, which will help keep maximum cooling performance while maintaining minimal fan noise by preventing fan rotation, unless the temperature reaches around 70 Degrees Celsius. The unit was also designed with high end GPU performance in mind with two 6 Pin and two 6+2 Pin PCI connections. Let’s take a look.
Enermax enters the heavyweight class with its new MaxRevo, high-performance PSU specially designed for multi-GPU systems, industrial PC, workstations and servers. It complies with the strictest standards for server PSU, and is equipped with six powerful 12V rails for a safe and stable supply of power to today’s high-end systems with full modular design for easy customized use for various peripheral GPU settings.
OCZ has recently released its latest power supply offering in the ZX Series of power supplies. These power supplies effectively replace the Z Series power supplies in the Maximum Performance sector and off an 80 PLUS gold certification, a single +12V rail, modular design and an impressive 5 year warranty. 80 PLUS gold certification means this power supply will run 87% efficient at 100% load. 80 PLUS gold is the second highest certification given to power supplies only out-done by the 80 PLUS Platinum certification. Today we will be taking a look at the 850W version of the ZX Series power supply.

The ZM1000-HP Plus features a dual heatpipe cooling system, lots of connectors, modular cables, and 80PLUS Silver certification for efficiency. See how the unit measures up in this review.
