Today we have a great product from a new company here at ThinkComputers. The company is Other World Computing or OWC as most people call them. They make quite a few different products but they are really known for their solid state drives. Today we will taking a look at one of their latest solid state drive offerings the Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 256GB. This drive features peak read speeds of 559MB/s and write speeds of 527MB/s. It also has a very impressive 5 year warranty! Read on to check out our unboxing and overview video!
Otherworld Computing, known more succinctly as simply OWC, showed one of the coolest things we’ve seen at CES: a smart electrical outlet with USB ports. It’s not the first electrical outlet with USB ports, but it’s by far the best designed. It features spring-loaded covers that kill the power when closed to prevent wasted juice and is the first UL-listed device of its kind, a necessary requirement for insurance-conscious homeowners. OWC also showed us its new lightning fast solid state drives (SSDs) and its expandible storage device primary meant for Mac Mini. ThinkComputers’ Colin Dean speaks with OWC’s Grant Dahlke in this video interview.
Otherworld Computing, more commonly known as simply OWC, made a splash this year at CES with its line of Mercury Aura Pro SSDs for 2008 and 2009 models of the Macbook Air and other Macbooks. It’s the first of its kind made specifically for the MBA. The drive trounces standard HDD performance, and shows a 400% performance increase against the stock SSD from the 2009 model and a 200% performance increase against the 2010 model of the MBA.
