It has been quite a while since we have seen a power supply from NZXT. Well they really have stepped things up with their latest line of power supplies called the HALE90 Series. Each of these power supplies features an 80PLUS Gold certification meaning they will run at least 87% efficient between 20% and 100% load and 90% efficient at 50% load. Cooling, power, and chassis profferors Cooler Master just launched a new line of high-end power supply, the Silent Pro Gold series. This series is 80PLUS Gold certified and is backed by a five year warranty. It’s a hybrid modular unit, meaning that it has some cables built-in while others are modular. This is among the first 80PLUS Gold-certified units ThinkComputers has seen. We recently reviewed the first 80PLUS Gold-certified PSU we’d seen, the Sparkle Gold Class 1250W. 80PLUS Gold means that the unit is at least 90% efficient at 20%, 50%, and 100% load. Antec is a staple in the power supply market around the world. Its Earthwatts line was introduced last year to target the green computing market. This line is designed to be sans no-frills, aside from partial modularity and 80PLUS certification. Taiwan-based Sparkle Computer Corporation has been around since 1982, most notably producing high quality graphics cards using the PCI interface, in addition to modern PCI-Express cards. However, it hopes to enter the power supply market with its new Gold Class series. These units are manufactured by Great Wall computer and sold by Sparkle as a part of its gaming brand. Antec has always been known for making very reliable power supplies. They have done something a little interesting with their CP-Series power supplies though. They are designed differently so they are larger than most power supplies, which means they will only fit in certain cases. Those cases include Antec’s Twelve Hundred, P183, and P193. The larger size does allow for a better internal design, but is that worth limiting what cases you can put the power supply in?
