Microsoft has officially announced their next version of Windows and they are calling it Windows 10, not Windows 9 like we all thought. Microsoft says that Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows. Windows 10 will run on a multitude of different devices and be a single platform and have a single application store. Microsoft says Windows 10 is their most comprehensive platform, ever.
After a look week of rumors it looks like Microsoft has gone out and bought Minecraft, well Minecraft maker Mojang for a cool $2.5 billion. Mojang is the small indie game developer studio based out of Stockholm Sweden that is responsible for gaming phenomenon Minecraft.
Earlier this year in April Microsoft ended its support for Windows XP. So that meant no more security updates and fixes. Even though support for Windows XP has ended it is still a very popular operation system, especially in business and on ATM and other point-of-sale machines. Because of this the Windows community is working on updating XP and even has plans for an official service pack 4.
It looks like Microsoft is finally putting their foot down. Your old, unpatched browser is not going to cut it anymore, they want you to update and they are going to cut off updates to older versions to make sure that you do.
Well it’s official Microsoft is scrapping Windows 8. Sales of the of the operating system have been very poor and it is even losing market share to Windows 7. In a blog post by Microsoft Senior Marketing Communications Manager Brandon LeBlanc, he says there will be no more major updates for Windows 8.
A couple more Windows 9 “Threshold” screenshots have emerged online. While the about Windows section in the second images still says it is Windows 8.1 Pro, it is said that this is expected to persist until Microsoft actually decides what to call the Windows Threshold project. The first image shows that Metro Apps will be able to run on the Windows desktop in a traditional window.
