When Intel launched their “Devil’s Canyon” processors last week they were exclusive to Intel 9-series motherboards. Well it looks like the chips are now supported on a large number of motherboards based on older 8-series chipsets (Z87, H87, B85, and H81), with a simple BIOS update from the manufacturer.
Intel has just announced their brand new “Devil’s Canyon” processors today. These processors are part of the Haswell Refresh which we saw most of the processors come last month. The “Devil’s Canyon” processors are a bit different as they are designed for gamers and overclockers and have new features not found in other Haswell Refresh processors. To that end we present our Devil’s Canyon preview, which should give you all of the information that you need to know about the Devils Canyon processors.
Intel recently launched its first Haswell Refresh processors, but it left out two enthusiasts chips from the bunch. These are the Core i7-4790K and the Core i5-4690K. These are not just multiplier-unlocked variants of the i7-4790 and the i5-4690 that Intel just launched. Both of these chips have been given an internal codename of “Devil’s Canyon” and the chips are made from high-performing dies binned out of the foundry, and placed on extra-durable packages with contact points that are designed for higher voltages.
