Other World Computing, a.k.a. OWC, brought its new Thunderbolt lineup to CES Unveiled, along with a brand new Mac Pro to show off how well its storage and expansion units fit with the new black motif.
Sometimes it can be hard to find an easy, affordable and reliable solution for external PC backups in one product. I have used several HDD enclosures and NAS products from several different makers and never really fell in love with any of them. Most of them have extremely complicated menus that you have to sift through to try and figure out how to change the RAID setup of the device. Then you have to wait several hours just for it to format a few hundred Gigs of space. In the past, when deciding on a RAID capable enclosure you really need to prioritize what is important to you and ask yourself a few questions. How much does it cost? How reliable it is? How easy is it to use? Keep all of those questions in mind as you read this review and I think you will be pleasantly surprised with this enclosure.
Redundant storage is something many people need and definitely appreciate, especially if you’ve had a hard drive die on you. That is never fun and neither is losing all of your data that was on your hard drive. Akitio has a cool little enclosure that will give you redundant storage with RAID support, nice protection with its aluminum design and quite a few different connection options. Did I mention it has a cool LCD display on the front that will give you information about your drives? Read on as we check it out!

Connectivity is king for external storage devices. The more ways a user can connect, the more ways the user can access their data in any situation. The IOCELL NetDisk SOLO NEWFAST is a sleek external hard drive enclosure offering four ways of connecting to the drive: USB, eSATA, direct Ethernet, and via a network connection. ThinkComputers has the review.
Most hard drive enclosures are the same, but the NETDISK from IOCELL Networks is a little bit different. As the same suggest it is network-connected so you have a network connection along side the USB and eSATA connections. This means you can share everything on your drive with the devices that are connected to your network like your Xbox 360 or media center. The extra USB and eSATA connections mean you can also take the drive with you and use it where you may not have an ethernet connection available. Read on to check out our unboxing and overview video!
External hard drive enclosures are nothing new, we have seen them since the USB 1.0 days. Now that USB 3.0 is becoming standard on most motherboards and cases we are seeing many USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosures coming out. One such external hard drive enclosure is the Goliath from Hornettek. This is a larger external hard drive enclosure as the name Goliath suggests so it will fit a 3.5-inch hard drive. Let’s check it out and see what is all about.
Our friends over at Hornettek were nice enough to send us over their Goliath USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosure. With the popularity of 2.5-inch solid state drives it is very hard to find hard drive enclosures that support larger 3.5-inch hard drives. Luckily Hornettek has the Goliath that does support 3.5-inch hard drives and even better it is a USB 3.0 enclosure and has an 80mm cooling fan included.
