I-O data has released a new device to its range, it’s a 24X external DVD writer. Codenamed DVR-UA24EZ, the drive offers USB 2.0 connection interface and is also capable of providing up to 24X for single layer DV-R. Besides this the drive also comes packed with I-O Data’s own ‘Mach Utility’ software. Reports are that the device will be shipped later in August for $76.
It is very evident that slowly and gradually 4.7GB DVDs are on verge of becoming outmoded. It’s not that the Blu-ray DVD comprising of a capacity of 128 GB has stolen the show; it’s just that there is a much bigger giant in the line now. You will be highly surprised to know that a team of scientists at the Swinburne University claim to have discovered a break-through method that can actually mount 1000TB of storage space onto a single DVD.
I visited the suite of Phillips and Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS) to see the company’s Plextor and Lite-On products for the new year. First is the eNAU608, Lite-On’s “most personalized drive”. It’s an external, slim, USB 8x DVD writer with LightScribe and LabelTag functionality. Users can swap out inserts inside the top area in order to identify the drive as theirs. They can also print their own using packaged software. The drive is available now for $59.
