ASUS has always been a leader in new technology and that has not changed much in the decades until now. ASUS is offing the world’s first AC2400-class dual-band 802.11ac wireless router with a four-transmit, four-receive (4×4) antenna configuration.
The RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual-band router has finally been announced by ASUS and its availability at pre order is now possible with the help of selected resellers. ASUS has always been a popular name in this industry and it is one of the leading brand names in technology and this much awaited release has finally been communicated to the onlookers by ASUS in an official announcement.
D-Link has released a brand new dual-band wireless Gigabit router. The DIR-850L is an AC 1200 router so it operates at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands. Not only do you have wireless support, but you also have 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports and a single USB port. You can connect a USB hard drive to the DIR-850L for easy file access on any device that is connected to the router.
There was a time when a wireless router did little more than, well, route. It took bits from the airwaves and put them on a wire, destined for the Internet or perhaps the local network. As the technology matured, product designers started adding things. At first, it was software like firewalls, quality of service controls, and port tunneling and forwarding controls. Then came the advanced things such as VPN and jffs-based file storage – sufficient for a small, static HTML site stored on a cordoned-off part of the router’s unused flash ROM. Then came the hardware changes, most relevant to this review being the advent of USB ports. This opened a whole new world of possibilities, generally USB Mass Storage devices and printers. Then Western Digital joined the fray. It added a hard drive to the router. Thus, we have the My Net N900 Central, a 450Mbps x2 high-end wireless router ready act not only as a shuffler of bits, but also as a storer of bits; a router and simple NAS all in one compact device.
ASUS must’ve recently hired a pro designer, their latest devices have been superbly attractive. This trend has continued with the RT-N56U Dual-band Gigabit Wireless N Router. Hands down, it is the best looking piece of networking equipment ever created. After the initial attraction subsides and you start to trust the RT-N56U with your day to day networking activities, you’ll find that it isn’t just a good looking device, it also has stable and consistent performance. The RT-N56U packs the speed, features and scalability to fit into any home or small office network. Check out the full review for all of the gritty details.
