One of the greatest things about CES is finding those few products that just blow you away. In transit from one scheduled morning meeting to another we crossed paths with the TactSlider booth. This booth was one of the smallest booths that we took the time to stop at during the entire event. Crazy enough the product we stumbled upon will probably revolutionize the tablet gaming industry for years to come. Imagine having a tactile joystick no bigger than a quarter that could attach anywhere to the surface of your mobile device to take the place of the annoying dedicated button spots or terrible tracking d-pads. The TactSlider is a cheap option that will essentially make that d-pad into one of the most comfortable analog sticks I’ve ever used. With a ridiculous amount of gaming applications the TactSlider is a product that I’m sure will be at CES next year…in a MUCH bigger booth.
We stopped by the Crucial meeting rooms to get a look at the newest DRAM and SSD products from the consumer brand of Micron. DDR4 is imminent, with its expected densities of up to 32GB and power consumption of just 1V driving high usage, high battery life devices in late 2013 with mainstream adoption in 2014 and 2015. On the SSD side, we take a look at an amazing 1 TB-class SSD at a price point of just $600, as well as new 512GB SSDs in mSATA and m.2 form factors.
Mushkin was showing a full lineup of products this year at CES. They first showed us their 960GB Chronos SATA 6GB/s solid state drive. It is actually 2 SATA drives interlinked in a RAID 0 configuration so you will not lose any performance. Mushkin’s 480GB mSATA drive meets JEDEC specifications. This is made possible by the interconnects on the drive. What is really cool about it is that you can take it apart! Finally Mushkin showed us their new performance memory and a prototype of their new USB 3.0 flash drive, which will be one of the fastest available when it launches.
Gigabyte invited us up to their suite at CES to check out some of their latest motherboards. We first took a look at the Z77X-UP5 TH. This motherboard offers dual Thunderbolt ports which allows output to a 4K display. Gigabyte is currently the only motherboard manufacturer offering dual Thunderbolt ports on their motherboards. Gigabyte is ready for Intel’s new all-in-one standard with their B75-TN and H77-TN. These boards are perfect for building that perfect small form factor system. Finally we took a look at some of Gigabyte’s value segment boards.
We sat down with David from Kingston to discuss some of their latest offerings for 2013. The big announcement from Kingston was their 1TB (yes 1 Terabyte!) DataTraveler HyperX Predator USB 3.0 flash drive. This is currently the worlds largest USB flash drive! It is currently available in a 512GB capacity and the 1TB version will be released very soon. It boasts speeds of 240MB/s read and 160MB/s write. Kingston also showed us their new 10th anniversary HyperX modules, which have a very sleek heatspreader. Finally Kingston has the DataTravler Ultimate USB 3.0 flash drive. Read on to check out our video coverage.
While we mainly know Sapphire for their video cards they actually showed us some of their new Mini PC’s at CES. This is because they video card market is sort of at a halt as new GPU’s are currently not available yet. Sapphire was really excited about their VS series of Mini PC’s that are made to be desktop replacements for moderate users. They offer all of the connectivity and power you would need for basic computing functions, but use far less power. They will soon be releasing a bare-bone version that allows you to install your own hard drive and memory. Check out our video below to get all of the details.
Antec is prepared to make a splash with their mobile product line, appropriately titled Antec Mobile Products (a.m.p). At CES 2013, Justin from Antec showed us the SP1, a Bluetooth speaker, and Pulse, a Bluetooth headset. The best thing about each of the aforementioned products is they both come with a built in microphone, allowing you to seamlessly switch between music and a phone call. Although Antec hasn’t abandoned their core and enthusiast PC market. On display was Antec’s new GX700 case, a rugged military inspired design with space for 240mm radiator on top, and an 11.5 inch graphics card. Antec has also added a few new models to their True Quiet fan line, and a new power supply. Special thanks to Justin for showing us all of the products.
