Even with the flood of Ivy Bridge processors and Z77 motherboards out there many people (especially gamers) that still prefer Sandy Bridge-E processors and X79 motherboards. This is because of the increased L3 cache on Sandy Bridge-E processors and the availability of more PCIe lanes. So until there is official word when we will see Ivy Bridge-E processors X79 still remains the high-end when it comes to desktop systems. Today we are taking a look at probably the most feature packed Z79 motherboard we have seen and that is available today. It is the X79 Extreme11 from ASRock and it features 7 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, 14 SATA ports, 8 USB 3.0 ports and much, much more. ASRock is marketing this board as the “Ultimate X79 Motherboard” and we are going to see if it is! Read on as we take a look at the ASRock X79 Extreme11 Motherboard.

Not too long ago we had the pleasure of covering ASRock’s mid-range offering, the Z77 Extreme6. Since then, ASRock have continued to release new motherboards to fit each market segment, including the board we have in front of us today, the Z77 OC Formula.
Geared towards overclockers and tweakers, the Z77 OC Formula sports both air and watercooled VRMs, 12 CPU power phases, an 8-layer Copper PCB, dual stack MOSFETs, Multi-Filter caps and a whole slew of other features and benefits, this new board promises to be the best performing board from ASRock that we’ve seen to date.
Well this is some interesting news for the weeekend. It seems like ASUS has made an offer to buy ASRock’s motherboard division. If ASRock accepts the deal and it goes through this could really shake up the motherboard market. As it stands now ASUS is the number 1 motherboard maker with Gigabyte following second and ASRock coming in third. Combining the number 1 and 3 motherboard manufacturers could really hurt many other of the board makers as they would not have the volume or competitive pricing to compete with one big ASUS / ASRock giant.
When I first heard that ASRock was coming out with a motherboard specifically made for overclockers I was excited, then I saw the color scheme they were using for the board and I was really excited! The black and yellow Z77 OC Formula Intel Z77 Motherboard features built-in watercooling, an 8 layer PCB, all digital power design, premium alloy chokes and much more.
