When AMD announced their brand new Radeon R9 290X flagship graphics card last week at their GPU 14 event many people noticed something missing from the cards. There were no CrossFireX connectors on the card. This is because AMD will be using new CrossFireX technology with the new Hawaii cards.
We have been talking a lot about AMD’s Mantle API over the past few days and how it will give a nice boost in performance to video game titles that take advantage of it. One such game is Battlefield 4 and according to AMD the Battlefield 4 demo at AMD’s GPU 14 event was running on a single AMD Radeon R9 290X at 5760 x 1080.
AMD recently introduced the Frostbite Mantle; a latest collaboration of AMD with DICE. The Frostbite mantle aims to enhance the graphical power of all GNC architecture GPUs and it is used with Battlefield 4 which has been powered by the Frostbite engine 3. This new API is going to replace the DirectX 11.1 on all GPUs which are compatible with the Radeon.

At AMD’s GPU 14 event they have just revealed all of the cards in the R9 2XX Series and the R7 2XX Series. These graphics cards are based on an improved version of the graphics core next architecture. The R9 series is made up of the R9 290X, R9 280X and R9 270X. The R7 series is made up of the R7 260X and R7 250.
In just about 6 hours AMD’s GPU ’14 Tech Day will start and be live streamed straight from Hawaii. This is a huge day for AMD and they will be announcing a new graphics card series “Volcanic Islands” after a 2 year hiatus. Recently we have been hearing about quite some leaked details of the AMD’s upcoming versions of the Hawaii and Oland GPU and one more thrill for the fans arrives with the freshest leaks of the latest of all AMD’s Curacao Pro graphics card which will be coming out soon in its Pro and XT models. This latest mid range Curacao will replace the existing Radeon HD 7800 ‘Pitcairn’ based GPU and has already has its images leaked on a number of websites.
It looks like a 100W Kaveri APU (KV Spectre Desktop 100W 1305) was spotted on Sisoft Sandra’s benchmark along with some information regarding the GPU, memory and a few bandwidth tests. The model in question showed a total of 13 CUs, which amounts to 832 stream processors. That is just a CU less than the top HD 7700 series card, the HD 7790.
