Super Talent Godfather 2GB Swivel Flash Drive Review

Usage
The quotes and still images from the movie are really quotes in various languages on poster-looking, low resolution graphics (none are larger than 750 pixels in any dimension). One might be able to use these as a background or as MySpace graphic. These aren’t movie posters or anything, folks. It’s really not that great. Don’t buy this if just want the graphics.

I ran some quick benchmarks just to see how fast this drive can be. hdparm -t reported on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 buffered disk reads of 56 MB in 3.06 seconds, or 18.28 MB/sec. File write tests using time and cp put write speeds at approximately 6 MB/sec and read tests are as expected.

Final Thoughts
The primary market for the Godfather drive has got to be the Christmas stocking market. I can see Mom, Daughter, or Girlfriend buying a Godfather flash drive for Dad, Son, or Boyfriend. The latter agents would probably never buy one of these of their own accord. The images on the drive are fun, but the user will probably simply delete them or stick them in some kind of personal image archive and forget about them.

The speed of the drive isn’t bad, but enthusiasts will certainly want something considerably faster. Fortunately, the price is right: the rubber or the swivel version of the 2 GB cost less than $10 at most major retailers, with 16GB versions near $50.

So what’s the point? It’s a fun gift for that someone in your life who needs a Flash drive and who is obsessed with Marlon Brando and The Godfather. ThinkComputers gives The Godfather 2 GB swivel Flash drive a 7 out of 10 score.
