Testing – Futuremark
I really couldn’t decided what to compare the P980X+ with. At first I considered a 9800GTX. Once I started running the benchmarks on the P980X+, I realized that its performance far surpassed that of the earlier version of the card. Taking account of what cards I had on hand, I decided to compare the P980X+ to my Sapphire Radeon HD 4870, because the performance of the P980X+ was much closer to the 4870 than I was expecting it to be. When looking at the test results, keep in mind that the ATI card costs $70 more than the P980X+, and the consideration should be given to how close the results are, not how much higher the scores are on the 4870.
As I expected, the differences weren’t much with the PCMark scores, the P980X+ actually came out ahead in PCMark Vantage, which isn’t as 3D intensive. The 4870 did come out far ahead in the 3DMark benchmarks, but not as much as I would have expected prior to receiving the P980X+
