Sony Announces 20th Anniversary PS4 in original PlayStation Colors

If you know your video game history you know that 20 years ago today (December 3rd 1994), Sony released the original PlayStation in Japan. Of course we all know that the console quickly became the most popular console of its generation beating out industry veterans like Nintendo and Sega. To commemorate this Sony is releasing a very special 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 console.

This 20th Anniversary model will have the same color scheme of the original PlayStation console. All of the accessories will also come with this special color scheme. The unit will also have the classic PlayStation logo on it. The 20th Anniversary PS4 will have a very limited run of only 12,300 units, a number symbolic of PlayStation’s launch date. Each unit will feature an aluminum plaque that has the individual number out of 12,300.

For those looking to get their hands on this console pre-orders will be opened up December 6th. Users who pre-order expect to pay 49,980 Yen (excluding tax) in Japan, $499 in North American, and €499 in Europe. There is also a new Anniversary theme available for download, which is intended to emulate the feel of the original PlayStation. It is currently being rolled out in Europe, and can be acquired for free.
