DS221 Enclosure Overview
The DS221 external enclosure is actually quite small; remember it holds 2.5-inch hard drives not the normal 3.5-inch drives. The enclosure is made of brushed aluminum which not only protects the drives inside, but also keeps them cool. There is a SilverStone logo on the top of the enclosure. The DS221 has a striking resemblance to the Max 4 from Thermaltake, except the Max 4 is an internal enclosure.
The front of the enclosure has 2 doors on the front. Each door easily opens by sliding the large silver button over. When you open the doors you can take a look inside. Each drive sits on its own tray.
On the side of the drive are some ventilation holes that also add a little style to the drive. Moving around back you have your connections. They include USB 2.0, eSATA and your power connection. There is also a switch that allows you to switch between RAID 1, JBOD, and RAID 0.
The enclosure does come with a stand. The enclosure easily slides into the stand. I really like having the enclosure sitting vertical, it looks better and makes it easier to install drives.
