Seasonic S12D 850W Power Supply Review

First Looks

The Seasonic S12D is a standard black unit with its output table and label on the outward-facing side. The rear is honeycombed for airflow and features a rocker power switch. The bottom has a 120 mm San Ace Sanyo Denki fan said to be among the most silent available.

I’m not entirely impressed with the design of the cable egress hole. The cables are bound together with a cable tie and another one closer to the hole. The cables are sheathed, though.

In addition to the standard 20+4 pin motherboard connector, there are six 4-pin device connectors, nine SATA connectors, one floppy connector, two 6-pin PCI-E connectors, two 6+2-pin PCI-E connectors, and the real kicker: dual CPU connectors for high-end server boards. That’s right, a 4+4-pin connector and an 8-pin connector suitable for motherboard and processor combinations which are more thirsty for juice than the standard board.

Seasonic's S12D 850 power supply is compatible with ATX 2.2 spec standard and supports the 24 pin ATX power connector by default. Seasonic rates the the +3.3V and +5V rails for 24 Amps and 30 Amps respectively, for a total combined output of 150W. There are two +12V lines, each can output 70 Amps for a combined output of 840W.
