Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1TB External Hard Drive Review

Seagate Manager Overview
The Seagate Manager software is really easy to use and navigate. When you open it up the main screen will show you how many FreeAgent drives you have installed, in our case just 1. You can select it and go into the setting menu where you can adjust the power setting, test the drive, adjust the LED control and check for a software update.

There are 4 buttons at the top, let’s start with Backup. Backing up your information is always a good idea and the FreeAgent software makes it really easy to do. You have the choice between a simple backup, which backs up your My Documents folder every day at 10PM, and custom backup. The custom backup allows you to choose the folders, file types, and which days and time to backup your files. Now you can also setup 1 backup profile so makes sure you select everything you want the first time.

Since you can only setup 1 backup plan you can also sync folders. Once again you have the choice between a simple sync and a custom sync. In the sync options you can choose to sync automatically or use the sync now button, also you can set the copy and replace rules.

The FreeAgent software does have encryption if you need it. First you will have to set a password then you can open your encryption folder, this is where all your encrypted files will be. You can easily drag and drop files into this folder to encrypt them.
