Testing – Gaming
Our first game test is Crysis Warhead. This game crushes most systems out there and is very graphics and memory intensive. We used the Framebuffer Crysis Warhead benchmark tool. We used the Gamer setting with a 1680 x 1050 resolution on the ambush demo with 8x antialiasing.
The Resident Evil 5 benchmark is next. This is the standalone benchmark, which is free to download. It offers both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 benchmarks. We ran the variable DirectX 10 benchmark with all high settings at 1680 x 1050 resolution and 8x antialiasing.
The Alien vs. Predator benchmark is next, it is also a standalone benchmark. As with many of the already released DirectX 11 benchmarks, the Aliens vs. Predator DirectX 11 benchmark leverages your DirectX 11 hardware to provide an immersive game play experience through the use of DirectX 11 Tessellation and DirectX 11 Advanced Shadow features. In Aliens vs. Predator, DirectX 11 Geometry Tessellation is applied in an effective manner to enhance and more accurately depict HR Giger’s famous Alien design. We ran the benchmark at high settings with 4x antialiasing.
Our final game test is DiRT 2, which is a DirectX 11 game. We used the built in benchmarking tool with all the settings set to high, antialiasing set to 8x and the resolution set at 1680 x 1050.
What does 3DMark Vantage tell you?
How does it differ from other benchmarks, like Furmark?
What are the Performance and High settings? How are they different?
For 3DMark Vantage the performance benchmark is designed for benchmarking with a moderate load on the graphics card. The benchmark runs at 1280×1024 resolution and is suitable for mid-range hardware with 256 MB of graphics memory. The high benchmark is designed for benchmarking with a heavy load on the graphics card. The benchmark runs at 1680×1050 resolution and is suitable for high-end and multi-GPU systems with at least 512 MB of graphics memory.
