SAPPHIRE has now added two latest models to the top of the range R9 290 and R9 290X graphics cards and both these models have the privilege of being equipped with the SAPPHIRE exclusive Tri-X triple fan cooler, better and enhanced clock speeds and the dual BIOS. The R9 290x Tri-X has been built around the latest GCN architecture from AMD featuring 2816 stream processing units and the engine clock has been enhanced further which speeds that reach up to 1040 MHz. It features a GDDR5 memory of 4 GB across the 512-bit interface and this memory has been clocked at at 1300 MHz. This provides higher bandwidth than what was featured on the reference design. The R9 290 Tri-X has 2560 stream processing units and an engine clock speed that goes up to 1000 MHz. It is additionally outfitted with a 4 GB GDDR5 memory which is on a 512-bit interface and has been clocked at 1300 MHz. The Radeon R9 290X is priced at $569.99 US while the Radeon R9 290 is for $429.99 US.
The two new models have been equipped with the reference design PCBs which feature the customized cooling solutions. Considering these are the R9 290 series, the cooling feature is extremely important and this is primarily because performance can be affected by the rise in temperature levels on the GPU. Fan speed profiles have been tailored on both the models to the transitional linear mode and the company believes that this mode can get a higher performance.
