When I first received the Samsung MV-3V4G3D kit I was, honestly, giddy with joy. I’ve seen these around and witnessed the capability to get utterly ridiculous speeds out of kit aimed at a kit not aimed at the overclocking sector at all.
Installation of the memory is fairly simple if you know your way around your BIOS. There’s no XMP defaults when installing, which could be a drawback for those who like to plug and play. There isn’t anything incredible about the stock timings of 11-11-11-28, but then, this is a Low Voltage kit – something’s gotta give. Upping the voltage to more “normal” levels creates some very, very impressive results. The Samsung 30nm kit frankly blew away the latest kits we’ve reviewed in performance numbers at comparable speeds – keep in mind that some of our kits are tested in quad channel, whereas this is a dual channel kit, so SiSoft Sandra’s results will vary in bandwidth testing. Pushing the kit we got it to an absolutely incredible 2400Mhz, and that was at 1.6v – there are kits on the market that are 1.65v for speeds WAY below this.
The MV-3V4G3D actually looks really cool; many companies are making some slick looking heat spreaders, but this kit opts for a black PCB, along with raw circuitry and memory blocks for its aesthetics.. and I love it. To be honest, this kit doesn’t even really need a heat spreader, as due to the manufacturing process, it doesn’t get that hot at all, even with 1.65v going through it.
The product on offer is low cost, incredibly overclockable, and can produce results that are simply staggering. It’s available for just $46.99 at my favorite online retailer. There really isn’t any other ram available at present that can produce overclocking results so exceptional at a cost that doesn’t totally annihilate your wallet. All backed by Samsung’s lifetime warranty, too!
