Samsung Demonstrates New Freesync Monitor

We are all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for Samsung to release their new FreeSync monitor. FreeSync is a new technology for AMD GPU. The basic idea is that the monitor matches it’s refresh rate to the frame rate being rendered by the GPU eliminating screen tearing. This idea was actually implemented in the spring of 2014 in the form of G-Sync for Nvidia VGA’s. The reason for the excitement over FreeSync stems from the fact that it should be much cheaper to use than G-Sync. Fortunately for us Samsung brought the UE850 to CES 2015 and we were able to take a look at it.

FreeSync

Samsungs UE850 should be one of the first monitors to the market that supports FreeSync and will be an ultra high resolution 3840×2160 UHD display. The panel is TN and runs at 60hz with a 1 ms refresh rate.

FreeSync

Connectivity comes in the form of 2 HDMI connectors and 2 DisplayPort connectors. The UE850 is scheduled to launch in Q1 of 2015.
