ROCCAT Tyon Gaming Mouse Review

Usage & Final Thoughts
I have been using the Tyon for about 3 weeks now and I really like it. The overall feel and grip of the mouse is good and you can start gaming right away with it no problem. Now if you are going to want to use the thumb paddle, dorsal fin-switch or even the extra buttons on the top of the mouse this will take a little bit of time to get used to. I think that is expected with anything that is drastically different from what you are used to. You really have to get your hands to adjust. That being said I still really enjoy the feel of the mouse and at no time did I lose grip or my hand or wrist start cramping up.

Talking about the new thumb paddle and dorsal fin-switch I used them quite often during my testing. Again they take some time to get used to, but they are quite effective. In Battlefield 4 the thumb paddle made driving vehicles, mostly aircraft much easier. The dorsal fin-switch also was very useful and I actually used it as a quick weapon switch in FPS games. Both of these new innovations bring the mouse to a whole new level and give you another option to be more precise and faster at actions when gaming. I no way do they fully replace a joystick, but if you were not really going to buy one, they do give you some of that functionality.

Another thing that I really liked was at no time did any of the new switches or extra buttons get in the way if I was purely using the mouse for basic tasks or straightforward gaming. I think that is something that we overlook when it comes to gaming mice. Some are so radical that you can’t even use them for basic tasks or only for certain types of games. Being an all-around gamer it is nice to know I can use the Tyon for FPS, MMO, Simulation and other types of games.

The mouse features ROCCAT’s Easy-Shift[+] technology, which has been a game-changer too. It gives you more-or-less a whole new set of buttons with different commands. Just press and hold the designated Easy-Shift[+] button on the mouse and the buttons on the mouse not have their secondary bindings. This is something that I miss when I’m not testing ROCCAT products. What’s even better is that this works in conjunction with ROCCAT’s gaming keyboards too, so if you hit the Easy-Shift[+] button on either the keyboard or the mouse it will work!

To be honest when I first saw this mouse I thought it was sort of gimmicky, the buttons do look a little absurd on it, but after using it my opinion has completely changed. This mouse brings gaming mice up to the next level and the new thumb paddle and dorsal fin-switch show that ROCCAT is not afraid to try new things. What’s even better is that this is an all-around mouse, not just for FPS or MMO, but all games.

Right now you can pick up the Tyon at my favorite online retailer for $88.99, which I feel is the perfect price for all the features that are packed into this mouse. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ROCCAT Tyon Gaming Mouse a 10 out of 10 score and our Editor’s Choice Award!
