Retested: Deepcool Captain 240 Liquid CPU Cooler

We previously tested the DeepCool Captain 240 liquid CPU Cooler and weren’t very impressed with the results. As it turns out neither was DeepCool when they saw our results so they decided to send us a second test unit after all. Fortunately this one arrived from Hong Kong with the thermal paste intact so we got to work immediately retesting.

Installation
While we were expecting to just replace the old unit with the new one, we were surprised to find that there were in fact some changes to the mounting system.

The first photo is from our original review and as you can see the wing mounts are bent at the ends and attach with simple thumb screws to shorter stand-off screws. The revised version we received with our replacement test unit feature flat wing mounts, longer stand-off screws and thumb screws with springs attached like you would find with custom watercooling CPU blocks.

The new design seems much better as you know when the unit is firmly attached which helps prevent overtightening. We did find however that the spring are just a little long and make it slightly difficult to get your first two opposite screws attached. Of course once installed everything is nice and snug.
