Panasonic Enters the Solid State Drive Market

It looks like we have a new player in the solid state drive market as Panasonic silently has released “Panasonic Premium” series solid state drives. Don’t get too excited though, these are just simple rebrands of OCZ drives, using the OCZ Indilinx Barefoot M10 Controller.

These Panasonic drives were spotted in the Akihabara shopping district and are being called Panasonic Premium solid state drives. These drives are currently available in 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacities.

All three drives are based on OCZ’s Indilinx Barefoot M10 controller and are more than likely using Toshiba’s second-generation 19 nm MLC NAND flash. As far as performance goes these drives should match what you will see from OCZ’s Vertex 460 drive. You can also see even the packaging of the drive is very similar to what you would see from OCZ.
