ZOTAC was among many different companies showing off Steam Machines at GDC this year. Although weirdly named the SN970 this Steam Machine is no joke featuring an unspecified 6th-generation Intel Skylake CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 GPU.
In a press conference that was held during GDC Intel was showing some things off, one of the more notable products was a desktop system running a 14 nm Broadwell CPU. Intel plans to release a socketed version of Broadwell in the middle of this year.
Welcome to our first Podcast! We have decided to do a Weekly Tech Podcast were we go over the reviews we have done for the week, tech news for the week and anything else that is going on in the current week.
In order to help people understand the level of processor performance and make an informed purchase decision based on their needs, Intel Atom processors will now be offered in three distinct brand levels in a good/better/best construct – the Intel Atom x3, x5 and x7 processors. This change will start with the next generation of processors. Intel Atom x3 processor provides basic, but genuine Intel-level tablet, phablet and smartphone performance.
It has been reported that Intel has delayed the launch of its next-generation “Skylake” desktop CPUs to August 2015. This is from its normal release schedule of launching a new CPU each Q2 of each year. Skylake is Intel’s next-generation CPU architecture that is built on the companies 14 nm silicon fab process.
Intel’s NUC (next unit of computing) ultra-compact desktop has been becoming increasingly popular, giving users the same performance of desktops that are ten times its size. Intel NUC units have been limited to Core i5 processors, but it looks like Intel will be changing that. Intel is working on a new unit that will feature a Core i7 processor based on Intel’s 5th generation “Broadwell” technology.
In Intel’s latest Q4 earnings report they have confirmed that Skylake will land in the second half of 2015, but 10 nm is still a far ways off. Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich has confirmed that the Broadwell delay has not affected the Skylake launch schedule. Intel still plans to release Skylake in the second half of this year around back to school time.

While visiting with Intel at CES 2015 they showed us something that really caught our attention. We all have seen HDMI sticks for streaming content etc, but what about an entire working PC in the form factor of an HDMI stick? Well Intel had a prototype of what they are calling their Intel Compute Stick and it looks very promising.
Valve has been making progress with Steam OS and In-Home Streaming, and hardware vendors have been trying to find a balance of performance and value. Sporting a small lightweight form factor, quad-core processor, and an SSD, Syber Vapor STREAM has found that balance of performance and value.
