Western Digital is no stranger to portable storage solutions, they have been marking portable solutions for a while now. Today we will be looking at the 1TB USB 3.0 My Passport Essential SE drive.
Over the past year we have looked at quite a number of solid state drives. The surprising thing is that these drives have been from companies that are not known for storage products. They have mainly been from memory companies like OCZ, Corsair and Crucial. It is about time one of the big storage companies we all know stepped up and released a solid state drive. Well today we have one such drive from Western Digital. Today we will be taking a look at the SiliconEdge Blue 256GB solid state drive. This drive features read speeds of up to 250MB/s and write speeds of up to 170MB/s. Let’s take a look…
With all of the solid state hard drives that came out this year it seems like traditional hard drives sort of took a back seat, unless you were looking to get a large capacity drive. One thing that many people may have overlooked was the availability of SATA 6GB/s drives. A SATA 6GB/s drive has double the transfer rate (6GB/s compared to 3GB/s) as the SATA II drive that is currently in your system. Today we will be taking a look at the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6GB/s Hard Drive and see how it compares to some other SATA drives. Let’s check it out!

The cost of hard drive storage keeps getting cheaper and cheaper, while the capacity getting larger and larger. A year ago, 1TB drives were several hundred dollars. Now, they’re only a few tens of dollars more than their 750 GB and 500 GB brethren. Earlier this summer, Western Digital introduced three series of hard drives: Green, Blue, and Black. The Green series is for power-friendly applications, Blue for standard drives, and Black for performance. ThinkComputers presents its review of the largest in the Black series, the 1 TB WD1001FALS.
