External storage is still very important to a lot of people. Especially people who use external storage for transferring files between 2 different computers or people use it for a work machine and a home machine. 2.5-inch hard drives have been overlooked for a while now, but since solid state drives use that form factor SilverStone has released the DS221 which is a dual bay 2.5-inch external hard drive enclosure that supports RAID. Let’s take a look…
External hard drive enclosures are very common these days, especially with large file sizes of HD movies and other content. A single-drive external hard drive enclosure works for most people, but people who want to protect their data and want faster speeds opt for a dual hard drive enclosure with RAID capabilities. Today we will be looking at one such enclosure from ICY DOCK called the MB662US-2S, which features RAID 0, RAID 1, BIG, and JBOD configurations. Let’s see if this is the perfect external enclosure for you.
I myself have not played around with a RAID setup as I’ve never had more than 1 of the same hard drive kicking around to try it out. I have seen RAID in action and some of my buddies love to have RAID setups, but I’ve never really looked into it until now. When asked what I wanted to look at next in terms of product reviews, I wanted to look at a storage system with redundant capabilities. In my head I thought some sort of RAID system. Bob got back to me and asked if I wanted to look at a RAID enclosure made by a company called Axus. I got to choose between a 3-disk setup and a 5-disk setup, naturally I choose the 5-disk setup known as the FiT 500.
