Zalman has been a cooling company that has never accepted the norm when it comes to current market trends. In a world where all-in-one CPU coolers are dominated by a standard rectangular radiator design Zalman decided to push their engineering limits and showcase a cooler that truly reflects a style we’ve learned come love. With quality matching engineering excellence in a large spectrum of product 2013 is expected to be quite the year for Zalman.
In 2012 Lenovo was the world’s fastest-growing PC company. So what does Lenovo have planned for 2013? Quiet a lot! Starting with their tablets and Ultrabooks they showed us the X1 Carbon Touch, which is the world’s lightest 14-inch touch Ultrabook. The ThinkPad Tablet 2, which is the world’s lightest Windows 8 Pro tablet. And finally the ThinkPad Helix convertible Ultrabook. Lenovo has a new line of portable monitors, both wireless and USB 3.0 wired. These portable monitors will give you touch on your device and act as a second display. The coolest product Lenovo showed us was the IdeaCentre Horizon which is a 27-inch all-in-one PC. Finally we were shown the new Erazer X700 liquid-cooled gaming PC.
In the past In Win has been a computer case company that focused on aesthetically pleasing options for all types of users. 2013 proves to be no different. With several new case options, some of which were the coolest we saw at CES, In Win proved that all the innovation awards that they walked away with this year were well deserved. The next “Frame” cases, one of which was a concept case from 2012 brought to life for CES, caught the attention of every person that happened to walk by the booth. If you are a DIYer and like unique looking cases this is a video you have to check out.
We bumped into Nectar’s Ken Lazarus while walking past the Brookstone booth, completely out of happenstance. In doing so, we stumbled upon one of the neatest tools we have yet encountered at CES 2013: the Nectar fuel cell mobile charger. Through the use of a special chip fabricated by Intel and a butane fuel pack, the Nectar charger can supply 10-20 full charges of a smartphone. This enables not only intraday charging, but days or even weeks away from electricity. The Nectar will retail at Brookstone for $299 with $10 fuel cells, which are one-time use but have recyclable casing.
Long have the days past since the CRT light guns that we used to dominate Zombies in games like House of Dead 2 on the Dreamcast. Unless you’re a user of either Kinect for XBox 360 or Move for PS3 you don’t know the joys of pointing a ‘gun’ at your TV and fragging some enemies. G-Mate took the opportunity to fill a void that has long needed filled by developing a console gun that does not use visual detection but instead uses a gyroscope that translates the movements to your screen. The MAG II Gun Controller is a giant leap in fully functional interaction with console FPS’s. Take a look at the video to see one of the coolest console products at CES.
One of the largest companies at CES 2013, Samsung took the liberty to demo some of the hottest products coming to market and currently dominating the world of electronic sales. The ‘Series 7 Gamer’ took the award of ‘Best Laptop of CES 2012’ and this year Samsung showed us the follow up to that outstanding product with the Series 7 Chronos. Qualifying as an Ultrabook in every criteria except the processor, this desktop replacement laptop will physically amaze you, aesthetically and with its hardware. We also took the liberty to overview some of the more prominent products for which Samsung is known. Check out the video for more details.
Griffin showed at its CES 2013 booth an extensively-tested waterproof and drop-resistant iPhone case and some useful other products, including a series of wooden headphones. The iPhone case is resistant in water several meters deep and can withstand a military drop test. The Wood Tones line of headphones come in 3 different colors and are extremely comfortable. Check out the video for more on Griffin’s newest products.
This year was the first year that Swiftech was at CES and they did so to really promote and tell people about their brand new H220 all-in-one liquid cooling system. This system is designed to not only compete with all of the other all-in-one systems out there, but also with watercooling setups in general. Besides providing great cooling capability the H220 is the only all-in-one system available in the US that allows you to take it apart, drain it and change the loop. So if you wanted to add video card, memory or VRM cooling you are able to. Adding more components to the loop does not really effect performance either as Swiftech uses their own pump, which is 4-5x more powerful that standard pumps included in all-in-one systems. Check out the video below to see what we are talking about as the H220 is one of the most impressive all-in-one watercooling systems we have seen in a while!
As always Intel was showing a lot at their booth this year at CES. We had the privilege of getting a private demo of the GT3 graphics on their upcoming Haswell platform. This put the built-in graphics head to head with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M in a Dirt 3 demo. From the video below you can see how they compare. Ultrabooks and tablets were a big thing for Intel at the show and they just announced a new 7W SDP (scenario design power) Ivy Bridge chip. This will allow companies to create smaller and lighter Ultrabooks and tablets that have longer battery life. Finally we took a look at Intel’s wireless display technology. Eventually with a WiDi enabled tablet or Ultrabook you will be able to buy a small dongle, much like a flash drive that will plug into an HDMI port in your display and wirelessly display what you are seeing or use it as a second display.
OWC, a.k.a. Otherworld Computing, showed off primarily three new products: the Accelsior, the Viper, and the KR. The Accelsior is a storage system using PCI-Express to serve up SSD blades. Configured in RAID 0, the drives were capable of more than 1300 MBps read and a very impressive write speed. The Viper is a new SSD that OWC claims will saturate a SATA III 6 Gbps connection at its 600 MBps maximum. Lastly, OWC shows a ridiculously awesome 200 ft drop test on its KR series of iPhone 4/S and iPhone 5 cases. These cases are built to withstand some serious punishment. Check out the video for more on OWC’s CES 2013 lineup.
