If you know anything about Kingston you know their HyperX line. HyperX is the name they give all of their high-end products. Kingston entered the solid state drive market with the SSDNow series of drives, but it was about time the put the HyperX name on a solid state drive. The HyperX solid state drive is a SATA 6GB/s drive powered by the SandForce SF-2281 controller, 25nm Intel NAND and boasts speeds of 555MB/s read and 510MB/s write. Kingston sent us the upgrade kit that includes a USB enclosure, 3.5-inch mounting bracket, SATA data cable, screwdriver and hard drive cloning software. Let’s take a look…
Kingston has made a good push into the solid state drive market with their SSDNow Series of drives, but now they are looking to really take the market by storm with their HyperX Series of solid state drives. As you may know HyperX is the name they give to all of their high performance products so we are expecting this drive to be a powerhouse! Kingston sent us the Upgrade Kit version of this drive that comes with a USB enclosure, 3.5-inch to 2.5-inch adapter, screw driver and much more. Read on to check out our unboxing and overview video!
Silicon Power is not a name you really think about when you think about solid state drives. If you did not know Silicon Power was founded in 2003 and they mainly specialize in memory products. Today we are going to take a look at one of their first SATA 6GB/s drives the Velox Series V30. This drive is powered by the SandForce SF-2281 controller and boast speeds of 550MB/s read and 500MB/s write. Let’s check it out!
Silicon Power is a new sponsor here at ThinkComputers and one of the first products they have sent us is their Velox Series V30 60GB Solid State Drive. This is their first 6GB/s solid state drive and has rated speeds of up to 550MB/s read and 500MB/s write. Read on as we open up the drive and take a look at what’s inside!
With all of the SATA 6GB/s drives coming out this year we have really pushed the limits of solid state drives. Most of the solid state drives we have tested max out at about 550MB/s. We are not going to see a SATA-connected drive go much faster than that until the next revision of SATA, which will not come for a while. So if you want to get faster speeds you will either need to RAID your drives or choose a different interface. OCZ has been at the forefront of PCI-E solid state drive development with the RevoDrive series. Now on its third version of the drive it is powered by the latest SandForce controller and boasts speed of 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write! Let’s take a look at the 240GB version of the drive.
Do we have an awesome unboxing for you today! Today we are unboxing the OCZ RevoDrive 3 Solid State Drive! This is OCZ’s third revision of the RevoDrive and this one sure packs a punch with rated speeds of 1000MB/s read and 900MB/s write! This drive is powered by two SandForce SF-2281 controllers and OCZ SuperScale Storage Controller which features Virtualized Controller Architecture 2.0. This is a PCI-Express based drive that is bootable and supports TRIM and SMART monitoring. Read on to check out our unboxing video and to get a brief overview of the RevoDrive 3!
Patriot is getting in to the SATA 6Gb/s game with the other big players in the solid state market with their Wildfire and Pyro solid state drives. Last year we were very impressed with the Inferno solid state drive from Patriot. Today we are taking look at Patriot’s Wildfire drive which sports the SandForce SF-2281 drive controller with Toshiba 32nm MLC NAND. It boast sequential read and write speeds of 555MB/s and 520MB/s respectively and max random write IOPS up to 85,000 (4K aligned). Let’s see how it performs against other 6Gb/s drives we have recently tested.
Today we have another unboxing video for you! Remember if you like these videos let us know by liking the video on YouTube or leaving us a comment. We are unboxing the Patriot Wildfire 120GB Solid State Drive! This drive features the SandForce SF-2200 controller paired with qualified MLC NAND flash for best performance, value and reliability. The Wildfire boasts speeds of 555MB/s read and 540MB/s write! Read on for more information and to see our unboxing video!
It seems like it has been a while since we have reviewed a solid state drive, the last time we looked at one was back in June! Well today we are taking a look at a solid state drive this will not disappoint! The drive I am talking about is the Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SATA 6Gb/s drive. The Force Series GT’s are Corsairs highest solid state drive offering boasting read speeds of 555MB/s and write speeds of 515MB/s, on top of that they are saying speeds of up to 85,000 IOPS. Let’s check this beast out and get it on our test bench!
OCZ has always been at the top of the list when it comes to solid state drive development. A little while ago we took at look at their first SATA 6GB/s drive the Vertex 3. This drive had blazing fast speeds and is considered an enthusiast or even business-level product. OCZ has brought their ever-popular Agility series solid state drive to the SATA 6GB/s standard. The Agility 3 is based on the SandForce SF-2281 controller and boasts read speeds of up to 525MB/s and write speeds up to 500MB/s. Let’s check out this drive and see how it stacks up to the Vertex 3 and other similar drives.
