Testing

Test Rig:
Case: NZXT Tempest
Motherboard: XFX 680i LT SLI
CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2x2GB OCZ SLI Ready DDR2 800 MHz
CPU cooling: Masscool 8W553, SilenX iXtrema IXC-120HA2, Thermaltake DuOrb, Titan Cool Idol, Cooler Master GeminII S, Cooler Master Sphere, Cooler Master Hyper 212, Zalman CNPS9300 AT

Tests were conducted under idle and load states. The computer was left to sit after 30 minutes after being turned on to check the idle temperature. The load temperature was found by using four instances of Prime95. Temperatures were obtained through SpeedFan.

The Zalman CNPS9300 AT outperformed all of the other coolers in idle temperatures by a full 3C. It was still pretty close to our best 100% load test, but I really think that low idle state would produce better cooling for the average user considering I'm sure most people don't run their CPU at 100% often.

Conclusion

I found the Zalman CNPS9300 AT CPU Cooler to be quite powerful. While it's not the `sexiest' as some may like it still does its' job very well. The low temps, especially the idle ones, are what makes this cooler excellent for cooling. Finding this product for around $45 at many online retailers seems to be a typical price among CPU coolers. If you really don't care about Blue LED's or fancy designs, but enjoy low CPU temps I think this would be a great pick for you. ThinkComputers awards the Zalman CNPS9300 AT CPU Cooler a 10 out of 10 score and our Editor's Choice Award.

Pros:

- Low temps, especially idle
- Unique `figure 8' heatpipe design
- `Tunnel' heatsink design
- Affordable
- Great for silent systems (CNPS)

Cons:

- None that I found
