The Remote
The NMEDIAPC Wireless Keyboard Combo Set is quite the addition to any Home Theater PC. Both the remote and keyboard have optical trackballs for optimal movement while broadcasting a signal to the receiver over the 2.4GHz spectrum. Since it is using RF you have the ability to use the keyboard and remote without directly pointing the remote at the PC within a 10 meter radius of the receiver. This means that you can still change the channel or change the next track even if there is a crowd full of people in the way. Both devices are ergonomically designed for comfort and ease of use, unlike past HTPC keyboards we've reviewed.
The remote is similar in shape and size to any other remote. However there are a lot of different buttons than your typical TV remote. Starting at the top of the remote there are the 3 Application Hotkeys: Close, Sleep, and the MCE Start key. Below these are the 4 MCE Hotkeys: My TV, My Music, My Pictures, and My Video. The next row of buttons consists of Live TV, Rec TV, Guide, and DVD Menu. Below this there is the volume and channel buttons with the OK button, and what seems to be a display button. Below this we have our Cursor Controls which consist of the optical trackball, four arrow keys, left and right mouse button, information button, and an Internet back button.
Below these are the Multimedia Hotkeys which include the standard Record, Stop, Play/Pause, Skip, Rewind, Next-Track, Pre-Track, Change Volume, and Mute. Below the multimedia keys is the keypad which only works if your Num Lock is on. If you are using the keypad on the remote and then want to use the keyboard for typing just make sure that you shut off the num lock because there is also a built in keypad into the keyboard which I will show you in just a bit.
If you didn't quite understand the explanation of the keys then here is a diagram for both the keyboard and the remote.
