QNAP wowed ThinkComputers a while back with its TS-109 Pro NAS, a small, aluminum-cased, single-drive unit. QNAP has grown quite a bit since then, and recently released a larger unit for its small business and corporate users, the TS-409U. The TS-409U is a quadruple bay rackmount NAS with support for up to 4 TB of space in a variety of storage configurations, including RAID5 and RAID6. Its variety of server software, including a full LAMP stack and printer server, can provide usefulness and utility to users at all levels of technical know-how and work goals. ThinkComputers reviews it.

The QNAP TS-409U comes in a very, very informational box which describes in great detail the device within. It highlights its support for various levels of RAID and that it can do on-line capacity expansion and RAID level migration. A variety of product labels adorn the lower section of the front, advertising its support for PHP, gigabit Ethernet, FTP, Samba, AFP, NFS, Active Directory, and such.
The rear highlights the unit's encrypted backups, UPS support, and secure data storage, access, and sharing capabilities. There's also an excellent diagram showing the many roles the TS-409U could play in an organization.
The unit is well-packed in Styrofoam, as would be expected for a unit of the TS-409U's caliber and price. It includes the unit itself, four drive trays, a power cable, an Ethernet cable, a manual, and some installer disks, along with rackmounting hardware.
