Introduction
Today I have the second on my series of four reviews of Revoltec products that our friends at Bluegears are officially bringing to the US shortly. If you didn't know Bluegears is the official US distributor or supplier of Revoltec products, the official announcement will be out shortly... Anyway, today for review I have the Revoltec Hard Drive Silencer, most hard drives claim to be quiet but not many really are, or they are quiet at idle but get loud when being accessed and who really wants to hear their hard drive rattling around in their case? Not me, I like me system quiet. Last year I purchased a Maxtor 200Gig SATA drive, yes it's silent at idle, but when it really gets going you can hear it rattling around in their, I learned to ignore it eventually but now I can silence it for good! Read on to learn my experiences...
Quick Specs
Not much in the way of specs, so it's really Quick Specs today...
REVOLTEC HARD DRIVE SILENCER
Technical Data:
Material: Aluminum
Color: Black
Size: for 3.5" Hard Drive Disks
applicable for 5 1/4" drive bays
First Looks
So on with it already... The packaging for the Revoltec HDD Silencer is similar to all Revoltec packaging in that it follows the tribal design, which is really cool actually. The package is small with the silencers being shown front and center of the package and a nice tribal border background. On the back of the package we find the specs and features and installation instructions.
Opening the package is easy, there are a couple pieces of tape on the backside to remove and that's it. Once open and we have everything out, we find only a few actual parts, the HDD silencers themselves and a pack of screws, four big screws and 4 little screws.
The silencers themselves are pretty thick, but being aluminum they are light. The silencers are thick enough to make your hard drive fit into a 5.25" bay. On the front of the silencer we can see two rubber blocks and on the back a thin rubber strip that sits against your hard drive.
The Revoltec HDD Silencers are a hair longer than a standard 3.5" hard drive and a bit taller. The silencers are essentially one big heat sink with rubber vibration dampening squares fitted in them, and a rubber anti-vibration strip on the back.
