CES 2009: OCZ Technology

OCZ has really come a far way from just making memory solutions. They now offer a wide variety of products for computer enthusiasts and gamers. At this year's CES they were nice enough to invite us up into their suite and show us some of their new products. They have new power supplies, memory and even a prototype case. Let's check it out!

Memory

OCZ had their full lineup of memory on display. Everyone has released triple channel memory kits and OCZ has done the same with their new low voltage DDR3 memory kits that run a 1.65V. These kits will be offered in OCZ's Gold Series, Platinum Series, Intel Extreme Edition, and Reaper HPC. These kits will be offered in 3G, 6G and 12GB kits and will range from 1333MHz all the way up to 1866MHz. OCZ is also still producing it's Flex EX series, now available in 2000MHz DDR3 with timings of 8-8-8-30 @ 2.0V. This kit is available in a 4GB (2x 2GB).

OCZ also has a few new series in their memory line, first the Flex II. This is of course the next generation of the Flex series. Unlike the original series where the water channel was above the module, the Flex II is designed where the water channels are directly over the IC's. This means even better cooling than the original Flex series! This dual channel kit is available in a 2000MHz 4GB kit with timings of 8-8-8-30 @ 1.9V. Another new memory series from OCZ is the Blade, which is designed specifically for the Core i7 processor / X58 chipset. Running at 2000MHz this triple channel kit will be available in a 6GB (3x 2GB) with timings of 7-8-7-20.

Storage

Solid State Drives (SSDs) are becoming more and more popular especially with the price of them slowly going down. OCZ has 4 different SSD offerings. First let's start on the low end with the Solid and Core V2 series. The Solid series is more of a value offering with read speeds of 155MB/s and write speeds of up to 90MB/s. Next up the line is the Core V2 series, which is mainstream, but is based on the old architecture. It has read speeds of up to 170MB/s and write speeds of up to 98MB/s.

The next mainstream offering is the Apex series, which is based off the new architecture. It offers read speeds of up to 230MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s. The ultra premium SSD offering from OCZ is the Vertex series, it has read speeds of up to 200MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s, but the thing that sets it apart from other SSD's is that it has an access time of 30usec! Now that is fast! All SSD offerings come in 30, 60, 120 and 250GB versions.

OCZ has also updated its SD card lineup with the Gold Series SDHC cards. These new cards are aimed at professional photographers and videographers who are taking HD video and taking large volumes of high resolution photographs. The Gold Series cards are available in speed class 6 (150x) in 4, 8, and 16GB kits.
