Rock, Paper, Joust!
One of LanWar's biggest claims to fame is its abundant selection of only-at-LAN-parties contests and tournaments. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the annual paper airplane, duct tape wars, or other annual contests, but I did get to experience of few of the unique ones. The first was the Rock, Paper, Scissors contest. I've never seen a tournament thin out down to the finals so quickly in my life, but I guess that's what makes it Rock, Paper, Scissors.
There was also a blow-up jousting rink setup in the BYOC that received non-stop fighters all throughout the event. They finally decided to have a tournament for it and it was truly an exciting spectacle watching friend and foe battle it out in the joust arena. There were plenty more contests and events but unfortunately I wasn't able to get to all of them. That is part of the LanWar experience that you just have to see for yourself.
Wrap Up
LanWar is consistently one of the most exciting LANs in the US. They have built themselves on a great following of community members and gamers. The feeling that you get when you show up from the staff and all the other attendees around you is great. They know what they're doing and they've been doing it forever. This year's event was packed with some of the best annual contests coming back in 2006 renditions and some new ones that were just as exciting. Although the World Series of Video Games side of it has a bit of rough edges, this event is just another opportunity for friends to get together and frag all night long at one of the east coast's biggest LAN parties.
