OCZ XMP Ready Series DDR3-1600 6GB Triple Channel Memory Kit Review

Testing

In the past I ran the full battery of benchmarks when testing memory. Keep in mind that memory speed is only a part of the overall system, and overclocking memory alone only marginally affects most benchmark numbers, if at all. I have often said that benchmarks do not tell the entire story, and I feel that it could even be counter-productive when someone sees that overclocking the memory only increased a game by .2 FPS. So for the past few months I have only been running memory-specific benchmarks when testing memory.

I ran the tests at the advertised clock of DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24, and again at my overclock of DDR3-1656 9-9-9-28.

  1. the design of these memory modules is quite good and were overclockable. Pretty good for price tag of about ~$150

  4. They are compact heatspreaders, so they are less effective than per se, heatspreaders that extend really high. These are good for use with large cpu heat sinks.
