OCZ Solid 2 Series 60GB Solid State Drive Review

Solid 2 Series Overview
The Solid 2 Series drive looks much like other solid state drives out there. It comes in the standard 2.5-inch side and has a sticker on the front letting you know it is an OCZ Solid 2 Series drive. It has an all black casing that most drives have as well.

On the back you have a few stickers on the back with serial numbers and information on them. Just like all solid state drives the Solid 2 Series has the standard SATA power and data connectors so no extra cables are needed. You will also notice jumpers on the drive; this is for flashing the firmware.

Let’s take a look at the inside of the drive, remember by opening your solid state drive you are voiding the warranty. To get inside the Solid 2 Series drive just remove the 4 small screws on the back of the drive and open it up. If you have never seen the inside of a solid state drive it is pretty cool to see for the first time. You have your rows of flash NAND (the larger chips), a controller chip and cache chip.

The Solid 2 Series is setup much like other drives based on the Barefoot controller, but remember this is the new Barefoot ECO controller so you have 32nm flash NAND. Also if you look at the barefoot controller it is the IDX110M01-LC chip instead of the older IDX110M00-LC chip. The cache chip is the 64MB Elpida chip.
